Is the rumour about West Ham United boss David Moyes great news for Newcastle United – if it materialises?

The Express have reported that West Ham United are willing to offer David Moyes a two-year contract if he leads the Irons to Premier League safety this season.

The Scot’s long-term future at West Ham was thrown into doubt earlier this month when The Telegraph reported that he was unlikely to see out of the season.

David Moyes, Manager of Sunderland looks on during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Sunderland at Stamford Bridge on May 21, 2017 in London, England.

But Moyes, whose side sit four points and five places above the drop zone, has been successful in East London so far and, interestingly, Newcastle United fans will be hoping that he signs a new deal with the Hammers.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez, a long-time target of West Ham, would be among the candidates to replace the former Everton manager in the capital if he were to leave.

But if the Irons aren’t in the market for a manager then surely Newcastle have less reason to worry about losing the popular Benitez.

Of course, the Spaniard might walk away from St James’s Park regardless after enduring two frustrating transfer windows under Mike Ashley’s ownership on Tyneside, but quitting the Magpies would be a little more difficult if he knew that he was not needed at West Ham.
