Some Everton fans on social media can’t get their heads around why Carlo Ancelotti decided to substitute Tom Davies against Manchester City.

The midfielder was brought off with just over 20 minutes to go in a double substitution that saw Alex Iwobi also depart the pitch, with Joshua King and James Rodriguez coming on.

ON the surface, that looks like a reasonable sub, King and Rodriguez offer a much greater attacking threat than Davies or Iwobi, but fans just couldn’t get on board with taking Davies off.

Indeed, many fans argued that it should have been Gylfi Sigurdsson making way, in what would have been a much more like-for-like switch with Rtodriguez.

To be fair, the team’s balance would have been maintained if Sigurdsson had been the one taken off, but we find it hard to question any decision a three-time Champions League winning manager makes.

Unfortunately, Everton were unable to change their fate after these changes, and fans weren’t holding back when it came to criticising Ancelotti’s subs.

Here’s what the Goodison Park faithful have been saying on social media…
