Pontus Jansson wrote on Instagram that people told him that he had ‘ruined his career’ when he left Leeds for Brentford in 2019.
On Saturday, the one-time Leeds favourite produced the best moment of his career when he helped Brentford reach the promised land after they beat Swansea City 2-0 in the Championship play-off final.
Jansson suffered play-off heartache with Leeds before and that continued in the colours of Brentford when they were beaten in the final last season.
But this time around, Jansson put all those wrongs right at Wembley yesterday, as he will be looking forward to locking horns with some familiar faces at Leeds next season.
In the end, it has proven to be the right call from the 30-year-old, who wrote this emotional message on Instagram after Brentford’s playoff success.
Gaetano Berardi, who shared a dressing room at Elland Road with Jansson, simply wrote ‘great’ in response to his ex-teammates message, whilst Tariqe Fosu simply wrote ‘My skipper’, with Pablo Hernandez also sending heart emojis to the centre-back.
Both Leeds and Brentford were involved in some tasty battles during their time in the Championship and it’s sure to get better now they are in the Premier League.
Jansson, for a number of years, has shown qualities that he is more than capable of playing in the Premier League and now he has his chance.
The Premier League fixtures for the 2021/22 campaign are due to be announced next month and Jansson will be pretty excited to see when he will face his former side.
