Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Rui Patricio will fly to Italy today to sign with AS Roma.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Patricio will complete his move to Roma.

Romano has added that Jose Sa will replace the Portugal international goalkeeper at the Wanderers.

Sa will join from Greek club Olympiacos.

Patricio cost Wolves €18 million (£15.39 million) in transfer fees when they signed him from Sporting Lisbon in 2018, according to Goal.

The 33-year-old has been superb for the Wanderers over the past three years and helped the club qualify for the Europa League.

The Portuguese goalkeeper was a regular for Wolves, making 37 Premier League appearances in 2020-21 and 38 in 2019-20.

Patricio also played 10 times in the Europa League in 2019-20 and made 37 appearances in the Premier League in 2018-19.

Wolves will miss Patricio, but Sa is a capable goalkeeper.

The Portuguese is 28 now and is at the top of his game.

Sa has the potential to be a regular at Wolves for years to come.

Wolves did not have a great season in 2020-21 under Nuno.

Bruno Lage is in charge of Wolves now, and fans will hope for a successful season in 2021-22.
