Aston Villa’s Rudy Gestede has won more headers than anyone – except Christian Benteke

The Aston Villa striker is only bettered in terms of total headers by the man he replaced, who joined Liverpool this summer.

Aston Villa fans will be delighted to know striker Rudy Gestede has won more headers than any other Premier League player except one heading into the international break.

The bad news? The man Villa sold to Liverpool, Christian Benteke, is that one.

Indeed, Gestede has made a bright start to life at Villa Park, while Benteke has also opened his account for Liverpool – even if it was in controversial circumstances.

However, had the Aston Villa man been given the same amount of minutes as the Belgian so far this season, he has averaged slightly less per header won.

And the figures are very much a continuation of the norm rather than the exception. Indeed, the Liverpool striker won more headers than any Premier League player last season, while his successor at Aston Villa won more headers in the Championship – by far – than any rival.

Both, then, are serious beasts in the air – and it will be interesting to see who ends up with the most aerial duels won come the end of the season.

At this rate, both the Aston Villa and Liverpool strikers will also have plenty to compete for in terms of who’ll end up with the most goals…
