Glasgow Rangers are reportedly hoping to bring Umar Sadiq to Ibrox on loan next season.
The Sunday Post reports that Steven Gerrard has looked to sign Sadiq on loan as the Light Blues look to bolster their striker options with Kenny Miller no longer under contract and Jason Cummings’ loan spell coming to an end.
Sadiq is something of an unproven talent so a potential move would probably be met with cautious optimism amongst the Rangers fans if it did take place. But Garcia – who signed the 21-year-old for Roma and handed him his debut – has suggested that a loan deal would be a superb move for all parties, while he also lauded Gerrard and wished him the best for his time at Ibrox.
“All in all, I think it would be a great opportunity for him,” he said, as reported by The Sunday Post. “Rangers are one of the top clubs in the UK, and they are in the Europa League this season, which is a platform for all players.
“If Umar goes to Scotland and does well, he will have the potential to grow into an international player. I would love to see that. I’d also love to see Steven Gerrard do well.”
Sadiq has got a somewhat mixed record in his senior career, with a handful of goals coming in Serie A and the Eredivisie. He has not exactly been prolific, but his record certainly hints that he has a lot of potential.
Rangers’ lack of depth up front suggests that the youngster could get the kind of opportunities that will help his development. And if he does build on the promise that he has shown during his time at NAC Breda in particular, then he could prove a superb addition to the Gers squad.
Garcia’s approval should certainly give the Light Blues fans hope, if a deal does get done, that signing Sadiq on loan could prove to be a masterstroke from the Light Blues.
