New signing Ruben Neves says Nuno was the main reason why he joined Wolves.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been very busy in the summer transfer window, with new manager Nuno Espirito Santo signing as many as nine players so far.

Of all the signings, it is needless to say that 20-year-old Ruben Neves, who joined the club for £15 million, reported by Express and Star, is the cream of the crop.

In an interview with Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Neves said that Nuno was the major factor behind his joining the Championship club, and feels Wolves is the right club for him to develop as a player.

He is still settling at his new club, but seems already impressed with the club’s training facility.

Neves said that it wasn’t an easy decision to leave Porto, but it was necessary as he wasn’t getting enough game time at the Portugal club.

The 20-year-old is a highly talented player and he didn’t mince his words when asked whether he sees Wolves as a stepping stone towards moving to a Premier League club.

“Nothing is set in stone in terms of that. We’re all giving 100% to get Wolves to where the club deserves to be,” said Neves in an interview with O Jogo (printed edition; translated by Express and Star)

“It’s a very competitive league with lots of games to play and everyone will be needed from the youngsters to the more experienced players.

“Yes, it will be easier to move to the Premier League from here. I’m focused on getting better as a player and this is the right place to do so.

“Yes, I spoke to him [Nuno] before agreeing to join especially because I knew him from last season. That wasn’t my best campaign for FC Porto. I liked the sound of this project and what the gaffer told me. I felt that this was an excellent opportunity to develop as a player.”

Neves also adds that he holds the ambition of winning the league title with Porto, and will definitely return to his old club at some point in his career.
