Roy Keane has said on ITV (7:16pm, June 13, 2021) that Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice of West Ham United were “excellent” for England against Croatia on Sunday.
The former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland international midfielder was impressed by the performance of Phillips and Rice in midfield.
England won 1-0 against Croatia in their opening Euro 2020 game.
Leeds midfielder Phillips provided the assist for Raheem Sterling’s goal in the second half.
Keane said on ITV (7:16pm, June 13, 2021): “Phillips and Rice were excellent.”
How did Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice play?
Phillips was brilliant in midfield and was a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the park.
The Leeds star drove the team forward, nullified Croatia, and also provided the assist for the England goal.
Phillips took one shot which was on target, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 93.9%, took 44 touches, attempted two dribbles, and made one tackle and one interception.
West Ham star Rice was the more conservative one in midfield who sat back and allowed Phillips to march forward whenever he got the chance.
The midfielder had a pass accuracy of 87.5%, won two headers, took 53 touches, and made one tackle and two clearances.
