Roy Keane slammed ex-Arsenal man Wojciech Szczesny and claimed that ‘a world-class keeper’ would have saved the long-range goal Tottenham striker, Harry Kane scored for England on Wednesday night.

Speaking on ITV (08/09/21 at 9:50 pm), presenter Mark Pougatch then claimed that ‘Tottenham fans might have some fun’ with that goal because of the ex-Arsenal man’s ‘past’ comments about Spurs.

England recorded a 1-1 draw against Poland in Warsaw yesterday, with Kane opening the scoring in the second-half after a thunderous effort from distance.

Szczesny, who Arsenal sold to Juventus for £10 million in 2017 (BBC Sport), was seemingly stuck to the floor because he didn’t move his feet quick enough and, as a result, Kane’s swerving shot hit the back of the net.

This is what Keane and Highbury legend Ian Wright had to say about that moment, including comments from ITV’s presenter.

“A world-class keeper would save that,” said Keane. “But as soon as Harry pulled the trigger, you thought it’s a goal as if he is six or seven yards out.”

Ian Wright added: “Some keepers you see they do that thing where they stutter their feet, so they keep their feet moving. He, obviously, isn’t one of those. It’s planted and he couldn’t move.”

TV host Pougatch then added: “I think some Tottenham fans might have some fun with the gif because Szczesny has had a few things to say about Tottenham in the past.”

Szczesny has actually improved his game since leaving Arsenal, but unfortunately, those problematic moments are still there.

Saying that, there is no doubt that the Spurs fans would have loved one of their own firing the ball past Szczesny last night.

The problem from Szczesny’s perspective is that he reacted late, didn’t entirely judge what was going to happen with the ball and then didn’t move his feet quick enough.

And whilst it was a top, top effort from Kane, it wasn’t bang in the bottom corner, so the Juve star will be asking serious questions of himself for that goal.
