Roy Keane stated that Harvey Elliott looked ‘really, really sharp’ during Liverpool’s 3-1 win against Cardiff in the FA Cup on Sunday, as he told ITV Sport.

The former midfielder added that Elliott showcased a ‘great first touch’ for his well-taken volley that all but put Liverpool’s name into the next round of the oldest club competition in the world.

Elliott was pretty unfortunate to suffer the ankle injury he sustained at Leeds in September, but he could argue that he got the luck on the other side because of how quickly he returned to action.

The noise inside Anfield went up a few decibels when Elliott was introduced into the action, alongside new signing, Luis Diaz in the second half.

But the noise inside the stadium took the roof off when he volleyed home to the delight of everyone donning Liverpool colours.

This is what Keane had to say about Elliott’s goalscoring return and what the 18-year-old will take out of today’s game.

“It’s great to see him back,” said Keane. “To score today will do him the world of good.

“But it’s a stressful time for a footballer. People don’t realise that, but it’s great to see that. It’s not just the physical side, it’s when to push you. When to give you a few days off.

“It certainly wasn’t an easy finish. Great first touch. He looked really, really sharp given the length of time he has been out.”

This is unfamiliar terrority for Jurgen Klopp because his Liverpool teams don’t usually go this far in the FA Cup.

But this is a great chance for the German to lift either the League Cup or FA Cup this season – or even both – because they have a huge chance to do so.

The Reds have a League Cup final meeting with Chelsea in the coming weeks and they face off against Norwich City in the last-16 of the FA Cup.

Added with that, they are going very strong in the Champions League and they won’t stop hunting down Manchester City in the Premier League.

So, all in all, the quadruple is well and truly on.
