Roy Keane has criticised Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks for his role in the penalty incident against Manchester United, as quoted in Football.London.

Eric Dier conceded a penalty during Tottenham’s Premier League game against United on Friday evening.

The England international, who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder, brought down Paul Pogba inside the Spurs penalty box, with Bruno Fernandes making no mistake from the resulting spot kick to make it 1-1.

United legend Keane believes that Tottenham midfielder Winks should have done more in the build-up to the penalty incident.

Football.London quotes Keane as saying: “Winks has got to be back in there.

“As poor as Dier was, Winks was just watching, he might as well have sat with us.

“Winks has got to get in there, stop the danger, expect his mate to be beaten. He was just strolling, just smell the danger, help your team-mate out.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, against United on Friday evening, Winks took one shot which was not on target, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 80%, took 63 touches, and made one tackle, one interception and one clearance.

So far this season, the 24-year-old midfielder – who came through the Tottenham academy and is a home-grown player – has made 20 starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League, and has played five times in the Champions League and five times in the FA Cup for Spurs, according to WhoScored.
