Roy Keane has raved about Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka on ITV (10:49pm, June 28, 2021) for his performance against France.

Arsenal midfielder Xhaka was in action for Switzerland in their Euro 2020 Round of 16 tie against France last night.

The 28-year-old had one of his best games this year and was key in the win for the Swiss.

Xhaka was calling the shots in midfield, played some wonderful passes, looked an imposing figure in the middle of the park, and gave a wonderful assist.

The midfielder took one shot which was not on target, played three key passes, had a pass accuracy of 92%, won two headers, took 102 touches, and made two tackles, three interceptions and one clearance.

Former Manchester United midfielder Keane was impressed by the display produced by Xhaka.

Keane said about Xhaka on ITV (10:49pm, June 28, 2021): “Xhaka was absolutely Man of the Match. He was outstanding.”

Proving his detractions wrong

Xhaka is a very good player, but the Switzerland international midfielder is not universally popular.

Not all Arsenal fans rate the 28-year-old highly, but against France, the midfielder – who cost the Gunners £30 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2016, as reported by Sky Sports – proved his detractors wrong on the big occasion.

Who knows, Switzerland could well go and win the European Championship this summer, with Xhaka playing a key role.
