Roy Keane has stated ‘I do’ when told that he has a ‘soft spot’ for Tottenham Hotspur, as he told The Overlap.

The former Republic of Ireland captain also shared that he used to support Spurs as a kid.

Over the years, Keane was part of many Manchester United teams that used to rip Tottenham to shreds.

And when he switched from being a hard-hitting tackler to a tough-talker in the studio, his outspoken ways, especially when speaking about the north London club have been as brutal as they have come.

When discussing Tottenham’s top-four chances, it was put to him by a Spurs fan that he does have a ‘soft spot’ for them.

“That fourth spot is available, isn’t it,” said Keane. “The way Kane and Son are playing. Spurs have almost snuck up there.

“If Tottenham can finish fourth, you can look at it and say ‘it’s been a great season’.

On always having a soft for Spurs: “I do,” admitted Keane. “But you judge it at the end of the season. This is the vital part of the season. Yeah, Spurs was my team as a kid. Bizarrely.”

Well, if Spurs don’t secure a top-four finish in May, then Keane won’t mince his words when talking about the club.

It’s Arsenal who are leading the charge for that all-important Champions League spot.

But Antonio Conte and his players have the pleasure of locking horns with their north London rivals, when the NLD is rescheduled.

That could be crucial in who secures Champions League football because Manchester United are also in the mix, with Arsenal having to welcome them to the Emirates, as well as take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

From that perspective, a lot of the pressure is off Tottenham, who clearly perform better when they have that underdog tag over their head.
