The Republic of Ireland international spent the second half of the season on loan to Sheffield Wednesday.
Keane was left unimpressed by McGeady’s display
Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane has delivered a damning assessment of Aiden McGeady’s performance against Belarus, reports the Irish Mirror.
Everton winger McGeady, who spent the latter half of the campaign on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, started Monday’s friendly defeat in Cork, but was withdrawn in the second half with Martin O’Neill’s side trailing by two goals to one.
The 30-year-old played a mere 45 minutes of football for his parent club in 2015-16 and was banished from Wednesday’s play-off final squad by head coach Carlos Carvalhal.

As a result, McGeady was able to link up with his international colleagues earlier than expected ahead of this summer’s Euros – although the extra preparation does not appear to have improved his fortunes.
“My reaction to Aiden’s performance? I think he can do a lot better but maybe that’s the story of Aiden’s career,” Keane said, as quoted by the Irish Mirror.
“Aiden needs to play better than he did last night to force his way into the starting XI.
“He has had a taste of football at Sheffield Wednesday. He did take that decision to leave Everton and take action.
“A lot of people do sit around and, say that’s not the right move for me.”
McGeady is sent off for Everton
Ireland face Sweden in their Group E opener in Paris in 12 days’ time and with no warm-up games in between, McGeady will have to rely on his training ground performances if he is to keep his place in the starting lineup.
The Glaswegian, who qualifies for the Green Army through one of his grandparents, previously played alongside Keane at Celtic.
He arrived at Goodison Park two and a half years ago, via a spell at Spartak Moscow.
