
Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was revealed that Max Meyer had been released by FC Köln.
What’s the story?
Well, after the German’s Crystal Palace contract was terminated in January, Meyer decided to join FC Köln on a short-term deal.
Sadly, things didn’t work out for him back in the Bundesliga.
Meyer made 12 appearances for the German outfit in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.
However, the 25-year-old failed to score or assist a single goal.
Now, he is a free agent, following a bizarre few years for the playmaker who was once tipped for big things.
Maybe Roy Hodgson was right?

During Meyer’s time in south London, Roy Hodgson never really took a liking to him – it was almost as if he’d been signed without his approval.
Across three years in SE25, the former Schalke 04 maestro made just 21 Premier League starts.
Many Crystal Palace fans were baffled by this, and frequently called for the playmaker to be handed more game time.

However, Hodgson wouldn’t budge, which eventually led to Meyer’s contract being terminated.
After FC Köln also saw nothing special in Meyer, perhaps Hodgson’s decision has now been justified.
