Liverpool thrashed Watford 6-1 to go top of the table.

Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans has hailed the team’s performance against Watford.

Liverpool thrashed the Hornets 6-1 at Anfield, having been 3-0 up by half-time.

The Reds are top of the Premier League table thanks to the win, with Manchester City slipping up 24 hours earlier against Middlesbrough.

Evans, who managed the Reds between 1994 and 1998, was glowing about Jurgen Klopp’s team.

In Klopp’s first season Liverpool were beaten by Watford, but that never looked like a possibility here, certainly not after Sadio Mane’s 27th minute opener.

Mane scored twice, while Coutinho, Emre Can, Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum were also on the scoresheet.

The international break comes at a bad time for the Reds, who are in top form, with their next fixture away to Southampton, Mane’s former club.

The Saints are in 10th place, and as Evans observed with this latest fixture, if Liverpool are serious about winning the title, the clash at St Mary’s is also exactly the type of game they need to win.
