Roy Aitken has shared that Brendan Rodgers used to tell him that he ‘thoroughly’ loved Celtic prior to his decision to leave for Premier League side Leicester City on Tuesday.

The Foxes confirmed on their official Twitter account that Rodgers has abruptly ended his stay in Glasgow to move south of the border and take the managerial hot seat at the King Power Stadium.

Rodgers’ decision to leave during this stage of the season has raised eyebrows amongst supporters, who were hoping that he would guide them to a treble-treble at the end of the season.

Instead, he opted to end his near three-year stay in Scotland as former Celtic man Aitken has shared what Rodgers used to tell him about the Glasgow giants whenever they spoke.

“Any time I’ve spoken to him, he thoroughly loves the job at the club,” said Aitken, as quoted by the Scotsman. “He is enjoying the adoration of the fans. He plays the Celtic way and he has brought in seven trophies.”

Rodgers won every domestic trophy that was available to him and he was on course to win the two remaining trophies; the Scottish Cup and the Scottish Premiership title.

During his first season at the club, the Northern Irishman won the treble and went unbeaten throughout the campaign as he made a serious mark in Scotland’s top-flight.

The Bhoys backed that up by repeating the same trophy haul for the following season, but they were unable to keep their unbeaten run intact.

Despite a poor start to the season, compared to their standards, Celtic picked up after the midwinter break as Rodgers was on course to securing the treble-treble before deciding to leave.
