Sheffield Wednesday head into a Championship fixture outside the top six for the first time in two months.

And after one win in seven for the Owls, it is hoped this will be the wake-up call they have been waiting for.

Already relegated Rotherham United play host to Carlos Carvalhal’s side this evening and, at yesterday’s pre-game press conference, the Portuguese was typically confident of his side’s ability to get the job done at the New York Stadium – and beyond.

Wednesday are once again far from full strength, however, with Almen Abdi, Kieran Lee and Sam Hutchinson ruled out and Ross Wallace and Fernando Forestieri both doubtful.

Their recent absences have, as Carvalhal admits, hindered the Owls’ fluidity [or as he put it: ‘a potato cannot play the role of a fish’], although a likely midfield of Callum McManaman, David Jones, Barry Bannan and Adam Reach should be more than a match for the Millers.

Paul Warne’s side is itself depleted, with Ben Purrington, Lee Frecklington and Danny Ward not expected to feature.

This is how we at HITC envisage the two teams line up:
