Rotherham United’s Will Vaulks would be worth every penny for Rangers

Rangers were reportedly preparing a bid for highly-rated Rotherham United midfielder Will Vaulks in the summer.

In all likelihood, Rotherham United are probably not missing Championship football. The Millers were almost begging to put out of their misery during a humiliating 2016/17 season in which they posted the lowest points tally in the second tier since three points were awarded for a win.

After 14 games in League One, however, Rotherham already have more points to their name than they did across 46 Championship fixtures last season. Paul Warne’s side are fourth and, in Will Vaulks, boast one of the league’s most in-form players.

Vaulks netted his first league goal of the new season in style during the 2-0 win against Scunthorpe United at the weekend, launching a piledriver into the net from outside the box.

In all, the hard-working 24-year-old has been one of the first names on the team-sheet this season and the prospect of adding goals to his game, that stunner against The Iron was only his second league strike for Rotherham, should only ramp up interest in a player who was once courted by one of the biggest clubs in the UK.

The Scottish Sun reported in May that Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha was weighing up a £400,000 bid for a player who had a habit of scoring against The Gers during his formative years in Scotland with Falkirk.

On current form, Vaulks would be worth every penny. And although the midfielder told the Scotsman in the summer that he was focused purely on Rotherham, Rangers should keep on tracking the progress of a midfielder who is going from strength to strength.
