It appears that Rotherham United are going to need all the help they can get this season, with just one win from their first 11 league games indicating that it could prove to be a long campaign. So naturally, the news that midfielder Joe Newell is raring to making an impact will be received with open arms. As reported by The Star, Newell has commented on his injury as well as what the club need to do to change their fortunes.

Newell has spent the last four months recovering from ankle surgery, and he has said that he is still working on getting back to 100%.

“The ability is there in the squad, definitely,” he told The Star.

“My fitness feels like it’s getting there. My sharpness and touch are still a bit rusty. I haven’t played much football since April.

“I’ve just got to keep working hard for the team and hopefully we can all turn it round together.”

“It’s good to be back playing,” he added. “I’m buzzing to be in the side.”

That ambition will be key for a Millers side who have not had much to be positive about since August. The return of one player is not likely to be the catalyst for a season-defining change, but giving manager Alan Stubbs more options is going to be crucial given Rotherham’s desperate need for some impact players.
