Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs has said that he wants more from midfielder Joe Newell following his injury problems.

Rotherham could use all the help they can get as they attempt to drag themselves away from the relegation zone. The Millers are currently rooted to the bottom of the Championship and despite promising displays in their last two games, points on the board is what will matter to fans and manager Stubbs.
Newell has done well at times since returning to the side after his four-month absence due to ankle surgery; however, more is expected of the 23-year-old midfielder in what is set to be a difficult campaign for the Yorkshire-based side.
Stubbs said of Newell, via The Star: “I think he’s done okay. I would like to see Joe have more impact in games.
“Sometimes when you’ve been out after having an operation, it doesn’t just come back overnight. It does take you three, four, five games when you’re coming back from a few months out to get your stride.
“He’s shown glimpses in games where you can see that he’s got quality. But I would like Joe to have an even greater impact in games for longer periods. It’s something we will work on, speak about and show Joe. Overall, yes, I’ve been pleased, but I think there’s room for improvement as well.”
It will be easier said than done for Newell as Rotherham face an increasingly difficult run of games over the course of the next few weeks, with supporters hoping the starting XI can dig deep and show the kind of passion necessary to keep the in this division.
The support is still there for manager Stubbs, but another run of bad results could see his fortunes start to change at the New York Stadium.
