Being able to laugh and joke about things in football is healthy from time to time, especially when you are in a position as bad as Rotherham United.

The club’s poor start to the season has left them bottom of the table, and as we come to the end of the international break their next few games look set to provide quite the test for the Millers. As reported by The Star, manager Alan Stubbs has joked about how he helped youngster Izzy Brown in overcoming his bout of tonsillitis.

The 19-year-old has been fighting a serious bout of the illness for a few weeks now, however despite feeling under the weather he still managed to feature in the positive performances against both Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United.

“He’ll come in every now and then and have a little splutter and a cough as if he’s still feeling it a bit,” Stubbs revealed.

“But it’s amazing what an arm around the shoulder and telling him he’s fine can do! He’s getting over it. I think he’s at the tail end of it. He’s still coughing up a bit of mucus.

“He’s had a quite severe case of tonsillitis. He was feeling pretty rough at Huddersfield and it carried on into the Newcastle game. But he was adamant that he wanted to play.

“That, to me, showed a different side to his character that perhaps people don’t know about. He deserves a lot of credit for that.”

Brown is set to play when Rotherham return to Championship action against Norwich City tomorrow, and in that game the Yorkshire club will aim to try and avoid making their worst away start to a season for 95 years. Regardless of Brown’s return, the Millers will need to do something special over the next few weeks in order to get some points on the board as they face a tough run of fixtures against the likes of Birmingham and Reading.
