Rotherham United boss Paul Warne is raving about a Leeds United target.

Swansea City’s Daniel James impressed on Friday as the Welsh outfit beat Warne’s side 4-3 to increase fears of relegation for Rotherham.

“The best players at the best clubs are the ones who cause you problems and he [James] is definitely up there,” Warne said to BBC Sport. “He will go on to have a great career, no doubt.

“He absolutely annihilated us at our place – he was unplayable. I knew we had to curtail James’ pace which is a joke, it’s like he’s on a motorbike.”

Leeds nearly signed the Wales international in January in a £10 million deal which fell through at the very end of the transfer window [The Telegraph].

But the Whites’ managing director Angus Kinnear said in February that the Elland Road club would ‘definitely maintain an interest’ in the 21-year-old winger [BBC’s West Yorkshire Sport Daily].

Warne, whose side are 22nd in the Championship, three points adrift of safety with three games to go, added that James and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish have been his stand-out players this season.

“I think he is one of the top two players in the league – my other is the Aston Villa captain. Those two win games on their own.”

Despite Kinnear claiming that Leeds remain keen, it’ll be interesting to see if that’s the case. His stock has risen since United’s original interest in January and time will tell whether the Yorkshire side can still lure him.
