Rangers finally snapped up Bongani Zungu on deadline day, luring the midfielder to Ibrox on a season-long loan deal.
The Gers needed to bring in a midfielder before the deadline, with rumours of a move for Preston North End’s Daniel Johnson seemingly slowing down.
With the transfer deadline approaching, Rangers swooped to bring Zungu, after months of speculation surrounding a move to Ibrox.
It looked like Zungu would be Ibrox-bound months ago, but an August report from Courier Picard in France suggested that Rangers scrapped the move over Zungu’s fitness.
Rangers director of football Ross Wilson has now spoken to the club’s official website, and seemed to suggest that those rumours were true.
Wilson claims that Rangers have pursued Zungu throughout the window, but lockdown in South Africa meant it would have been difficult for Zungu to make an impact with his lack of match fitness.

Wilson and Rangers have waited for Zungu to get himself in a better position and then struck a deal, which could become permanent next summer if he impresses.
“Bongani is a player whose situation we have monitored throughout the window. We are excited to have him join Rangers,” said Wilson. “Following a difficult and prolonged period of lockdown in South Africa, it would have been hard for him to have joined us at an earlier stage of the window.”
“However, we have kept an open and positive dialogue with Bongani and Amiens, and the structure of this agreement works well for all parties,” he added.
