Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has been quoted by the Scotsman as saying that futures of Connor Goldson, Steven Davis and Allan McGregor remain up to the players. The trio are out of contract at Ibrox this summer.
Rangers have just landed in Spain ahead of Wednesday night’s Europa League final against German side Frankfurt. Not only is a trophy on the line, but so is the chance to qualify for the Champions League groups.
Goldson, 29, has been a rock at the back for Rangers – clocking up 221 appearances for the Gers in the four years he has spent at the club. Davis and McGregor have a combined age of 77, and are Ibrox legends.
Asked ahead of boarding the plane to Seville, Wilson was asked about the futures of all three players and he did not give a definitive answer. Instead, he said it is up to the three players, whether they want to stay.
“I think that’s a question for those guys,” Wilson said, as per the Scotsman. “Obviously there’s some contracts expiring and people will have their own decisions to make on their futures as well.
“What I do know is this group of players are a united bunch, they are together and are immensely looking forward to the challenge that awaits us not only on Wednesday, but of course at Hampden on Saturday as well.”
Wilson discusses future of Rangers trio – keep or let go?
Goldson is one player that Rangers simply have to keep in Glasgow. The defender has been pivotal to all of the success Rangers have had in recent seasons. Not least the unbeaten Premiership title under Steven Gerrard.
If they can convince him to stay, then they must. For McGregor, it is a slightly different story. He is now 40, but has proven in the run to the final of the Europa League that there is life in the old dog, yet.
Davis has become a bit-part playing and while involved here and there, he is probably the most-likely of the three to go.
