Pedro Caixinha’s Rangers is praised by former Celtic winger Ross Wallace, now at Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday winger Ross Wallace has told The Star that Rangers are in better shape now than they were last season.

Championship club Wednesday recently faced Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers in a pre-season friendly match at the Hillsborough Stadium.

Pedro Caixinha’s side got the better of the England-based Owls 2-0, thanks to goals from Josh Windass and Kenny Miller.

Wednesday winger Wallace, who is 32 years of age and started his professional club football career at Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic, has shared his impression of Rangers.

“Rangers was a tough game,” Wallace told The Star. “They were cheered on by a good crowd and brought good numbers down. It was a tough game but it was a good run out for us.

“It felt like a top end Championship match. Rangers have got some good players and look stronger than they did last year. It was a good game to play in.”

Rangers finished third in the Scottish Premiership last season and will be aiming to challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic for the league title this campaign.

The Gers will kick off their league campaign on Sunday afternoon when they take on Motherwell away from home at the Fir Park Stadium.

Ahead of the match, Rangers winger Daniel Candeias has taken to social networking site Twitter to express his excitement.

Meanwhile, Rangers manager Caixinha has explained the importance of his side’s draw with French club Marseille in a pre-season friendly match earlier this summer.

“The game against Marseille was where the team got confidence in themselves, plus the understanding for me this could be the formation that suits them best,” Caixinha told The Scottish Sun.

“They understand it easily, and can play more comfortably in that system. Marseille posed different problems than a lot of the Scottish teams are going to pose you.”
