Sheffield Wednesday winger Ross Wallace has told The Star that Steven Fletcher was outstanding against Leeds United last weekend.

Wednesday got the better of Leeds 3-0 at the Hillsborough Stadium in the Championship.

Fletcher started the match and played until the second minute of injury time, and Wallace, 32, was impressed with his teammate’s performance in the Owls’ comprehensive victory over the Whites.

“Fletch was outstanding against Leeds,” the winger told The Star. “Him and Hoops played off each other and it was probably the best I have seen them play together.”

Fletcher joined Wednesday in the summer of 2016 following his departure from Sunderland at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

The Scotland international did not have a great record at Sunderland, and his performances at Wednesday have been rather mixed.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker scored 11 goals and provided two assists in 40 Championship appearances for Wednesday during the 2016-17 campaign.

So far this season, the 30-year-old striker has scored two goals and provided one assist in eight league starts for Carlos Carvalhal’s side.

Perhaps Fletcher could form a formidable partnership with fellow Wednesday striker Gary Hooper as the season progresses.

The Owls finished in the top six of the Championship last season and will be aiming to do the same this campaign.
