Wallace is on trial at Wigan Athletic after leaving Sheffield Wednesday.

Ross Wallace has made a positive impression on Wigan Athletic, where he is currently on trial after leaving Sheffield Wednesday – the Daily Record reports (liveblog entry 14:03).
Wigan are said to have taken the 33-year-old along to their Spanish training camp, after he assisted the winning goal in the Latics’ friendly win at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.
And a source is quoted as telling the newspaper Wallace has “really impressed” staff and “hasn’t done himself any harm” as he attempts to earn a contract at the DW Stadium.
Wallace spent three seasons at Sheffield Wednesday and was a regular as the Owls made the Championship play-offs in all but one of those.

But Wednesday’s need to cut costs, coupled with their desire to reduce the average age of their squad, saw Wallace released alongside another long servant, Glenn Loovens.
The former Scotland international boasts significant experience in England’s second tier, where Wigan make their comeback at home to the Owls next month, and won promotion with both Sunderland and Burnley.
Could Wallace’s release return to haunt Sheffield Wednesday?
