Gary Hooper started up front for Sheffield Wednesday against Fulham.
Ross Wallace has told the Sheffield Telegraph that Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Hooper was ‘on fire’ against Fulham.
Hooper has made a slow start to his career at Hillsborough, after signing on a loan deal from Norwich City back in October.
However, the 27-year-old looked dangerous in Wednesday’s 1-0 against Fulham – and Wallace wants the striker’s deal, which is currently due to expire on January 17th, to be extended until the end of the season.
“Gary has taken a bit of flak but when I joined from Burnley, I hadn’t played much football,” the Scotland international said. “It was the same for Gary. Maybe he was a little bit rusty.
“It can take three or four games to find your feet but I think you could see against Fulham that he is finding that form. He holds the ball up for the boys. Gary was on fire and so unlucky not to get a goal. He is a player I would love to keep until the end of the season.”
Wallace scored Wednesday’s winner against Fulham, when he lashed home a wonderful effort from 25-yards.
Hooper did not get on the scoresheet, but he still proved problematic for the Cottagers’ defence to deal with throughout the contest.
It was arguably the front man’s finest performance since he signed for the Yorkshire side.
Hooper has now played 11 times for Wednesday, although only four of these appearances have been starts.
The former Celtic hitman has scored twice for the Owls to date.
