Glasgow Rangers defender Ross McCrorie received praise from Pedro Caixinha after a bright start to life in the Ibrox side’s first-team.

Pedro Caixinha recently put everyone on notice when he proclaimed that Rangers starlet Ross McCrorie could be one of the finest defenders in the country in the future, as reported by the Daily Record.

McCrorie went into this season having not made his Gers debut, but he recently came into the fold after Bruno Alves sustained an injury in the League Cup tie with Partick Thistle.

Given that he has started the subsequent two games – including the first Old Firm clash of the campaign – and generally did well given his age and lack of experience, the teenager would be forgiven for getting carried away – but he recently suggested that he will not allow the praise to go to his head.

“I saw the manager’s comments after the Thistle game but I just took it in my stride, I didn’t read too much into it,” he said, as reported by the Record.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen prior to the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“Obviously it’s great what he said but I”m a level-headed boy so I won’t get carried away. I’ll just continue to do my best and see where it takes me in my career.”

McCrorie’s response to Caixinha’s praise should leave the Portuguese and the supporters feeling incredibly encouraged about his future.

The 19-year-old is clearly aware that he has some way to go before he is ready to be considered a first-choice on a regular basis for the Light Blues, and his response suggests that he is determined to work his way to living up to Caixinha’s praise.

And his comments suggest that he will not even begin to relax until his manager’s praise no longer refers to his potential, but rather to his current level of ability at that moment.
