With his chances of landing the job permanently dwindling, manager Graeme Murty needed a strong result, and he got exactly that in a dominant showing against Dundee.
Kenny Miller got the scoring started as he smashed home from Jamie Murphy’s mazy run, before Alfredo Morelos tapped home from Daniel Candeias’ cross to make it 2-0 after the break.
Jamie Murphy capitalised on hesitant defending from Genseric Kusunga to add a third, and Daniel Candeias sealed a 4-0 win with a simple finish late on.
The Gers now head into next weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic with a win under their belts, and will hope to take that confidence into the latest Old Firm derby.
After Saturday’s win, players took to Twitter to react, with Ross McCrorie sending a heartfelt message having made his Ibrox return, after spending more than three months on the sidelines.
James Tavernier and Daniel Candeias also reflected on a win for Rangers, with both players already focusing on next weekend’s Old Firm derby.
