Amid reports that Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack is interesting Paul Lambert, it’s time to look at why his career would hit a brick wall at the club.
It’s fair to say Ross McCormack’s tenure at Villa Park has not quite worked out as well as some had hoped. The 30-year-old was widely expected to succeed at the club following his move in the summer, but a mixture of poor play and the general lack of confidence the striker is suffering from has led to a thoroughly disappointing first half of the season.
In terms of moving on it seems as if Villa are move than prepared to do that, with a host of Championship clubs likely to be in the hunt to secure McCormack’s services. One of those teams is Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Birmingham Mail reporting that manager Paul Lambert is very interested in the Scot.

However it seems as if the move would be an illogical one. Much like at Villa, Wolves already have a number of striking options up top and whilst they aren’t necessarily working out that well at the moment, it’s a building process. Whilst McCormack would probably go straight into the first team, there’s alot of competition around him and it seems as if he would benefit more from being the focal point.

Plus, not a whole lot would change in moving from Villa to Wolves, as the two sides are very similar especially given the pressure involved with playing for them. Both Midlands teams have very expectant fans with the two clubs being backed by wealthy owners, in addition to bringing in a new manager already this season due to the likes of Di Matteo and Zenga not working out.
A whole new change of scenery would probably be necessary if McCormack is serious about a move away from Villa Park, but getting his head down under Steve Bruce and giving his all to try and recapture some of his magic seems to be the best course of action.
