Aston Villa forward Ross McCormack has been linked with a surprise move back to Leeds United.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Leeds have asked Aston Villa about Ross McCormack’s availability this summer. And it is surely fair to assume that any move would certainly divide opinion amongst the fans.

McCormack was a key player for the Whites during the four years he spent with the club – but his departure in 2014 soured his relationship with many of the supporters, with BBC Sport reporting that summer that he had handed in a transfer request before making a move to Fulham.

But while the Scotsman may have wanted to move away from Elland Road three years ago, his comments to the Birmingham Mail in December 2016 regarding his former club perhaps hint that he would now jump at the chance to return.

In the build-up to Villa’s clash with Leeds at Villa Park last term, McCormack – whose son was actually Leeds’ mascot when the two teams had met earlier that season – made it clear that he remains extremely fond of the Yorkshire side.

“I am looking forward to it. Leeds is one of the clubs that is really close to my heart. It will be a good game, I’m sure,” he said, as reported by the Birmingham Mail when asked about the upcoming fixture at the time.

Given that comment and the fact that he has endured a miserable time at Villa, it is surely fair to assume that if the chance to return to Elland Road presented itself during this window, he would find it extremely difficult to turn that down – despite how his previous spell with the club ended.
