Aston Villa are currently in 18th place in the Championship table, after a poor start.
Ross McCormack has told the Express and Star that Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo and captain Tommy Elphick are singing from the same hymn sheet.
Di Matteo and Elphick have been left frustrated by Villa’s start to the season, which has left them in 18th place in the Championship standings.
Villa are expected to mount a challenge for promotion, but McCormack insists that his side cannot allow the front runners to get any further away from them, even at this early stage of the season.
“I think probably, individually, the players have probably looked at it and thought we don’t want let it to get too much bigger but collectively the manager, (captain) Tommy Elphick, senior players around the squad are all saying we have to stay positive,” he said.
“The manager said he didn’t know what we we need to do to win a game. I think it is simple. We need to take our chances and we will win games.”
McCormack joined Villa from Fulham in the previous transfer window, and he forms part of an impressive attacking unit at Villa Park.
The Claret and Blues are yet to show their top form, though, and they have won just once in their first six outings.
As things stand, Villa are nine points behind the automatic promotion spots and six points back from the play offs.
Di Matteo’s side do have a game in hand on most their rivals, however, with their next match coming against Brentford later this evening.
