Aston Villa have been in excellent form since Steve Bruce became manager last month.
The 55-year-old replaced axed Roberto Di Matteo and the Villans’ form has improved a great deal since.
Bruce has taken charge of five Aston Villa games since his appointment, winning three and drawing two in a run of form which has seen the team move five points adrift of the playoffs.
But their promotion hopes would look far healthier if a certain £12 million signing, Ross McCormack, began to play like the player that his price-tag suggests he is because, so far, he’s a poor return for the money.
The 30-year-old has netted two league goals in 13 appearances and had lost his place in the first XI over the past few weeks. With one assist, is he much more influential in a number 10 role?
For someone who has scored over 60 times in the Championship during the previous three seasons, McCormack’s return of two goals is very disappointing.
But, as the saying goes, form is temporary and class is permanent, and Aston Villa need that adage to ring true regarding the Scot if they want to finish in those playoff places.
Jonathan Kodjia is in fine form, scoring six times in 11 Championship game, but if Bruce can get McCormack on song then it would be huge for Villa’s promotion bid.
