The striker believes Villa keeper Pierluigi Gollini will come good.
Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack has made a prediction about struggling teammate Pierluigi Gollini, via the club’s official website.
Gollini errors have contributed to both goals conceded by Villa in this season’s Championship, costing Roberto Di Matteo’s side an additional three points.
The Italian’s mishit clearance was punished by Sheffield Wednesday striker Fernando Forestieri on the season’s opening weekend, while another cannoned straight in off Huddersfield Town defender Michael Hefele in the Villans’ last outing.
McCormack, though, remains unconcerned by Gollini’s start at Villa Park and has tipped him to preserve more points than not over the course of the campaign.
“It’s happened to many goalkeepers before,” said the fellow Villa new boy, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“Pierluigi had made a couple of saves already before that. He will make loads more and he’ll save us more points than he costs us in the end.
“The boys will rally around him if he needs it but he’s a strong character so he’ll be fine.”
Gollini, a former Manchester United youth team player, cost Villa a reported £4.25 million from Italian side Hallas Verona, having impressed despite the club’s relegation from Serie A last season.
And the 21-year-old immediately displaced previous first choice Brad Guzan, who was subsequently signed on a free transfer by Middlesbrough.
Villans shot-stoppers Mark Bunn and Jed Steer currently act as deputies for Gollini.
