Leeds United were denied a penalty claim during their 2-0 defeat against Newcastle United.
Ross McCormack has told Sky Sports, during their coverage of Leeds United’s match against Newcastle United, that he disagrees with Garry Monk that the Whites deserved a penalty during the contest.
Monk claimed after the match that Leeds were denied a ‘clear cut’ penalty, when the ball hit Jack Colback’s arm in the penalty area.
However, McCormack felt that the Newcastle midfielder could not do much to get out of the way of the cross, and suggested that the referee got his decision correct.

“It would have been soft,” the former Leeds United striker said. “When you’re that close to the ball it’s hard to get out the way. When you jump your arms automatically come up in the air.”
If Leeds had been given the penalty the result of the match may have been different, but in the end Newcastle went on to win 2-0.
Newcastle scored their first goal after Leeds goalkeeper Rob Green dropped the ball at Dwight Gayle’s feet, allowing the striker to poke home from close range.

Gayle then scored again in the second half to seal a victory for Rafael Benitez’s top of the table side.
Leeds have slipped down to seventh in the Championship table, as a result of the defeat – and now sit one point outside the play off places.
