Sunderland missed out on striker John Marquis in January.

Sunderland missed out on promotion to the Championship last month, and must now look to mount another push next season.
Jack Ross will be hoping to iron out some of the issues with his side, starting with the inability to turn draws into wins through profligacy in front of goal.
The January signing of Will Grigg didn’t solve the problem, and with loanee Kazaiah Sterling heading back to Tottenham Hotspur, another striker may be wanted to support Grigg and Charlie Wyke.
One player wanted in January was John Marquis, the Doncaster Rovers hitman who just hit 26 goals in all competitions this past season.
The Chronicle now carry quotes from Doncaster boss Grant McCann admitting that Marquis could move on, but not on the cheap after rejecting a £2million bid from Sunderland in January.
Marquis wanted to make the move in January, but Doncaster stood firm, and with goals needed at the Stadium of Light, there may well be another chance for Sunderland to sign the 27-year-old.

With new investment coming from Mark Campbell according to the Daily Mail, splashing the cash on a proven League One striker like Marquis would give Sunderland a strikeforce to be feared.
League One defences wouldn’t want to go up against Grigg, Marquis and Wyke in any combination next season, and Marquis’s combination of strength, aerial ability and great work rate could make him a major coup for the Black Cats if they manage to fund another move.
