Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley has revealed to The Times the advice Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has given him.

Barkley played with Gerrard for the England national legend before the latter retired from international duty in July 2014.

The 22-year-old has been at Everton his entire professional career so far and is considered as a hugely promising young footballer.

Gerrard may be playing for Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer at the moment, but until the end of the 2014-15 season, the 36-year-old midfielder was on the books of Liverpool, having been at the Reds his entire professional career until then.

Barkley has revealed what the former England international midfielder has told him in regard to how to deal with being a local boy for a club as big as Everton.

“I’ve spoken to Stevie Gerrard,” Barkley told The Times. “He helped me with how he dealt with being a local lad and playing for Liverpool.

“He told me, ‘Don’t put too much pressure on your shoulders, try and enjoy it.’ I love football, and if I’m not doing so well the fans will get on your back, but I don’t feel pressure.”

So far this season, the England international attacking midfielder has scored one goal and created seven chances in three league matches for the Toffees.
