Ross Barkley comments on his Chelsea penalty miss

Ross Barkley failed to score from the spot for Chelsea on Tuesday.

Chelsea attacking midfielder Ross Barkley has told The Daily Mail what his teammates Willian and Jorginho said to him before he took the penalty against Valencia.

During the Champions League game against Valencia at Stamford Bridge in London on Tuesday evening, Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the 87th minute.

Wilian apparently wanted to take the spot kick, but it was substitute Barkley who eventually took and failed to convert it, as the Spanish team won 1-0.

The former Everton star has shared what his Chelsea teammates Willian and Jorginho said to him before he took the penalty.

Barkley told The Daily Mail: “It was more, ‘Good luck with the penalty’ type of thing, encouraging me. They would have been willing to take it as well, but I felt confident.

“They were just encouraging me to score the goal. I’m gutted I missed, but these things happen.”

Moving on

Players do not always score from penalties, and Barkley should move on from his miss against Valencia.

There are more pressing concerns for the former Everton star, such as establishing himself in the Chelsea first team.

The 25-year-old has not really progressed since he left the Toffees for the London club, but perhaps under manager Frank Lampard, he will fulfil his potential.
