Leeds United boss Uwe Rosler has explained why Nicky Ajose may have no choice but to leave the club.
Leeds United boss Uwe Rosler has confirmed on the club’s website that he’s spoken to midfielder Nicky Ajose about his situation at the club.
Rosler has explained the reason the winger hasn’t been included on the pre-season trip to Austria and Norway, as well as the message he’s given to the player ahead of the new Championship season.
It leaves Ajose with a difficult choice to make over the next couple of weeks as he judges whether to stick or twist in terms of his role at Elland Road.
“I feel we have certain areas where we have too many players. I think to be honest to players is the best way to be,” he told leedsunited.com.
“We had a good chat with each other. I just said to Nicky that he would find it hard to get regular playing time.”
Should he stay?
Ajose has been given a clear message that if he stays, it’s going to be difficult for him to get regular game time under Rosler.
Leeds could still draft in another wing and have players in the form of Charlie Taylor and Lee Erwin already in the squad, who are suited to playing wider positions in the first team.
If he does stay, Rosler could find that interesting in terms of the player’s determination to force his way into the first team.
Should he go?
Ajose spent time on loan with Crewe last season which gave him the chance to play regularly and improve more quickly than would have been the case if he’d stayed put at Elland Road.
The same applies to the coming season, but he doesn’t have to rush a decision and can wait until the right club comes along.
If he does leave, he has to factor in that Leeds could sign another player as cover which potentially sets him back even further if he’s got aspirations to become a regular at Elland Road.
