Manchester United teenager RoShaun Williams told the clubs official website who was the fastest player within the United ranks yesterday, saying that the team do speed testing and he doesn’t normally come out on top.

Williams revealed that it was fellow teenager and youth team player Timothy Fosu-Mensah who was the quickest player at the club, narrowly ahead of himself, Axel Tuanzebe and breakthrough sensation Marcus Rashford.

“We do speed testing and there are quite a lot of fast players in the squad,” Williams told ManUtd.com, adding, “”Tim [Fosu-Mensah] is fast, Axel [Tuanzebe] and Marcus [Rashford] – all of them are very fast so we have quite a good competition between us. We do it in the gym.”

“Am I the quickest? No, Tim is probably the fastest!”

Some may be surprised to hear that Williams isn’t the quickest player at the club, given that he broke the 100 metres sprint record at Ashton-on-Mersey School which had stood for 25 years, having been set by Olympic gold-medalist Darren Campbell.

Darren Campbell is unlikely to be too disappointed though, a Manchester United fan himself, he will be hoping that Fosu-Mensah can use his pace to great effect in the Manchester United defence and add to the 10 appearances he has already amassed for the first team.

Williams, meanwhile, is yet to appear for the first team at Old Trafford, but he was named on the bench in two first team games last season; against West Ham in the FA Cup and Liverpool in the Europa League.

Both were among the most highly rated youngsters in Warren Joyce’s Manchester United under-21 team which won the title last season, and they can draw inspiration from Marcus Rashford, who has made the step up to the first team with consummate ease.
