Whenever Rory McIlroy plays at his home club in Florida, he must have to give a ridiculous amount of shots away to whoever he’s playing against.
McIlroy’s official handicap has just been revealed and it is genuinely mind-blowing.
2025 has already been quite a year for the Northern Irishman. He won three times on the PGA Tour, including his Masters triumph which saw him complete the career Grand Slam.
He also won the Irish Open, secured his seventh Race to Dubai crown and played a pivotal role in Europe’s Ryder Cup triumph against the United States at Bethpage Black in September.
On his day, the five-time major champion is extremely hard to beat, and his official handicap proves just how good he is.
Rory McIlroy’s official handicap at his Florida Home Club unveiled

McIlroy holds memberships at 18 golf courses around the globe, one of which is Apogee Golf Club in Indiantown, Florida.
The five-time major winner was even a founding member of the Tom Fazio-designed club, which plays as a par-72 stretching over 7,138 yards.
He plays most of his golf at Apogee’s South Course, a tough layout with a slope rating of 133 and a course rating of 74.6 from the back tees.
Even more astonishing is that McIlroy carries an official handicap of +8.7.
This means that in his last 20 rounds, he has played to about nine under the course rating on average.
It’s worth noting that many of McIlroy’s scores recorded in the GHIN system come from PGA Tour events!
Ian Poulter’s amateur handicap was even more surprising than McIlroy’s
Rory McIlroy’s +8.7 handicap is staggering, but Ian Poulter’s figure stands out for a different reason entirely.
Poulter, who once reached world number five, has put together a strong career at the top level.
Now 49, he has three PGA Tour wins and 12 titles on the DP World Tour. He has also played in seven Ryder Cups for Team Europe, winning five of them.
Remarkably, when Poulter was still an amateur, his handicap was four. Not plus four—just four.
That speaks volumes about how much work he put into his game over the years. It’s a reminder that with enough commitment and effort, big goals are within reach.
