As far as Championship clubs go, West Bromwich Albion and Huddersfield Town are chalk and cheese, the only connection being that both will be plying their trade in the second tier of English football next season.
According to the Birmingham Mail, the Baggies are on the verge of hiring David Wagner as their new manager after their Chinese owner turned up his nose at Chris Wilder and Michael Appleton.
But Wagner be warned; the West Brom job is very different from the one he took back in November 2015, when he was parachuted into a Huddersfield side struggling towards the bottom of the Championship.
Wagner will always have a special place in the heart of Huddersfield fans.
The likeable German secured legendary, almost messiah-esque status after guiding an unfancied, unfashionable Terriers side to the most remarkable of promotions in 2016 before keeping them in the Premier League 12 months later.
At the John Smith’s Stadium, however, expectations were a little higher than mid-table.
At West Brom, Wagner will be deemed a failure if he does not lead a squad chock-full of proven Championship talent to a top-two finish at the first time of asking.
Furthermore, a fanbase who fell in love with Slaven Bilic’s attractive, free-flowing style of football might not be quite so giddy about the kind of pragmatism that worked wonders at a limited, defensively-drilled Huddersfield side.
It speaks volumes about Wagner’s reputation that many in West Yorkshire would love to see him succeed back on English shores.
Whether he can, at a very different club with very different demands, remains to be seen.
