Manchester United have been linked with a move for Isco, which would prompt questions over Wayne Rooney’s role.
Isco
According to The Mirror, Manchester United are lining up a move to sign Real Madrid playmaker Isco during the January transfer window.
The Red Devils may have splashed the cash on Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan during the summer transfer window, but Jose Mourinho may not be done spending just yet giving his side’s recent performances.
Isco celebrates scoring for Real Madrid
With three defeats in a row in all competitions, United look out of sorts under Mourinho, and are lacking some creativity behind lone striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Now, The Mirror report that United are set to mount a bid for Real Madrid’s Isco during the January transfer window, with the Spaniard keen to leave having fallen out of favour under Zinedine Zidane.
Isco, 24, joined Real Madrid shortly after Mourinho’s departure in the summer of 2013, having emerged as one of the top young talents in Spain with his hometown club Malaga.
Real Madrid’s Isco in action
After 17 goals in his first two seasons with Real Madrid, Isco looked to be on his way to stardom, but scored just five goals last term, and has played just 45 minutes of La Liga action this season.
Now set to move on in January given that he has no future under Zidane, Isco has been targeted by Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, but Manchester United are now looking to beat them all to his signature.
Isco would allegedly cost around £25m, and such a deal for United would pose further questions about the future of Wayne Rooney.
Real Madrid’s Isco
The 30-year-old is United’s captain and has started every Premier League game this season in the No. 10 position, but has looked sluggish and out of form, with many suggesting that Mourinho should drop him and potentially replace him in the January transfer window.
With Rooney struggling to link midfield to attack, a move for Isco would suggest that Mourinho is ready to look elsewhere for a creative force – and bring Rooney’s future into the spotlight even more.
