Ronny Deila has admitted to The Glasgow Evening Times that he would not get to manage a bigger club than Celtic.

Deila was in charge of Scottish giants Celtic for two years from 2014 until the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

During his managerial spell at Celtic Park, the Norwegian won the Scottish Premiership title twice and the Scottish League Cup once.

Now in charge of Valerenga, the 41-year-old has admitted that he would not get to manage a club bigger than Celtic.

“I know what I would do if I started again,” Deila told The Glasgow Evening Times. “Would I want to go back again? Of course I would. And now if I had to do it I would find it 100 times easier.

“I don’t think I am going to get such a big club like Celtic again. If I came back to British football it would be a smaller club. But I have done it before.

“I know what British football is about now. I know the culture and I would be much more comfortable if I went into a similar situation.”

Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world, but Deila’s comments suggest that the Bhoys were wrong to appoint him in the first place.

Deila’s comments show that he knows his limitations and does not have lofty ambitions.

While all managers are aware of what they are capable of and of their limitations, the fact that the Norwegian admits that he will not get a club bigger than Celtic underlines his lack of ambition.

Given the club that Celtic are, they should have appointed a very ambitious manager back in 2014. Instead, they brought in Deila.

Under Deila, the Bhoys could not qualify for the group stage of the Champions League for two seasons in a row.

One wonders where Celtic would have been now in terms of European progress had they appointed someone else in place of Deila, someone better, someone with much more ambition…
