Ronny Deila shares a Pedro Caixinha memory

Ibrox outfit Glasgow Rangers recently appointed Pedro Caixinha as their new manager.

Ronny Deila has revealed to The Glasgow Evening Times the discussion he had with Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell about current Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha.

Deila was in charge of Scottish Premiership giants Celtic for two years from 2014 until 2016.

Caixinha, who was appointed the Rangers boss earlier this month, managed Santos Laguna from 2013 until 2015.

Celtic and Santos Laguna are affiliate clubs, and Lawwell had suggested a meeting between Deila and Caixinha in Mexico.

Deila, now in charge of Valerenga, has revealed the discussion he had with Celtic chief executive Lawwell about the Portuguese coach.

“I didn’t speak to him [Caixinha] when he was in Mexico but myself and Peter were thinking of going over to visit him,” Deila told The Glasgow Evening Times.

“I remember Peter talking to me about him. He said the club was good and there was good trust between the two clubs. We were talking about a couple of players.”

While Deila is no longer in the Old Firm picture, Caixinha is facing a tough task at Rangers.

The Gers are aiming to finish second in the Scottish Premiership table this season, and will also be looking to push Celtic for the title during the 2017-18 campaign.

Celtic will take on Heart of Midlothian away from home in the Scottish Premiership after the international break, while Rangers will face Motherwell at Ibrox.
