Celtic boss unhappy with his defender after Hamilton draw.
Ronny Deila says that Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata deserved to be sent off in Friday night’s 1-1 draw away to Hamilton Academical.
The former Manchester City man was issued a straight red card on 41 minutes for bringing down Carlton Morris, with the Bhoys leading 1-0 through an earlier Leigh Griffiths penalty at the time.
After Griffiths then missed a penalty, Eamonn Brophy punished the visitors with 73rd-minute equaliser to salvage a point for the determined hosts, and Deila was left to rue a moment of naivety from Boyata at full time.
“I think it (the red card) was an okay decision. I saw it one more time and I don’t think he touched the ball. We have to learn from these situations,” the Norwegian boss told Celtic’s official website.
“When you have one-v-one you have to run with people. We have quick defenders so they should run with them instead of taking chances and put us in a difficult situation.”
The result might yet have significant implications on the Scottish Premiership title race.
As it stands, Deila’s men boast a seven-point lead over second-placed Aberdeen, who can reduce that gap to four with a win at home to St Johnstone this afternoon.
Last night’s draw bookends a relatively ordinary February for Celtic, who lost 2-1 away at Aberdeen at the beginning of the month, before beating Ross County and Inverness.
The reigning champions are back in action on March 2 when they host Dundee FC who, as it stands, sit sixth in the SPL table.
