Celtic have tended to sign promising youngsters since Ronny Deila took charge.
Ronny Deila has told the Daily Record that he will only bring experienced players into Celtic if he can sign them on the cheap.
Deila has tended to favour the recruitment of youngsters since arriving at Parkhead, but insists that he sees the value in acquiring experience.
The Norwegian boss’s worries lie with paying over the odds for older players, though, as they offer no resale value.
“I’ve always brought in experience before, just maybe not at Celtic,” he said. “The most important thing is not to use a lot of money in transfer fees to players who don’t give the club a financial return.”
At the moment, Celtic have Carlton Cole on trial, after the target-man’s contract at West Ham United expired.
Whether the Bhoys will opt to make Cole’s move a permanent one remains to be seen, but given that he is available as a free agent, he would meet Deila’s requirements when breaking away from the spotting of potential.
The Scottish Premiership champions have assembled a squad packed with youngsters, and they are largely building a team which can develop, rather than one loaded with ageing veterans.
Cole’s addition would provide them with another option in the forward positions, though, as Celtic do not currently possesses a target-man of his ilk within their squad.
