Stuart Armstrong is playing well for Celtic this season.
Ronny Deila has told The Herald that he is pleased with Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong’s development this season.
Armstrong has been deployed in a central midfield position by manager Brendan Rodgers this campaign.
The 24-year-old former Dundee United star has played well and has established himself as a key figure for the Bhoys.
The Scotsman has scored as many as 12 goals for Celtic this season, and former Celtic manager Deila has been pleased.
Armstrong played wide left of a front three under Deila, who was in charge of the Bhoys from 2014 until the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
The Norwegian has praised the Scotsman, and has explained why he did not play him in his preferred position.
“Stuart Armstrong couldn’t come straight into Celtic and be the best player at Celtic when he had just left Dundee United,” Valerenga manager Deila told The Herald. “He needed time. Now, once he has one and a half, two years, under his belt, he is starting to adapt to playing at Celtic.”
“He played central for us as well at times too,” added Deila. “But we had Tom Rogic and Stefan Johansen there, Stefan wasn’t a natural No 10 but he did well the first year, and pressed the game well for us.
“Tom Rogic did well too and we did play Stuart in the central as well sometimes. I agree that he has made this [central midfield] his best position. But at that time I think he needed more experience to be able to play there.
“I am so happy that he has made it, and developed that way. He was a player that we believed in.”
Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 83 points from 29 matches.
The Glasgow giants are 25 points clear of second-placed Aberdeen and are set to win the league title this season.
